| Cutters must examine the rough stone very carefully in order to determine the presence of any flaws, sand grains or variations in the product. |

Having determined the used area, the cutters slice the stone with a diamond saw and cut it roughly to shape.

| Then fixed the stone to a dop stick to complete shaping on the grinding wheel. The cutters have to wet and close examine the stone so that the colour bar is cut to the best advantage and flat or dull spots are avoided.

Sanding on discs of decreasing fineness removes the grinding scratches and final polishing using a leather lap wetted down with polishing powder completes the process. |
